Career Insight: Why do you work? “Find something you love about your job and it becomes more than a job.” — Michael Josephson

by Michael Josephson on February 24, 2012

Aristotle once observed: “The goal of war is peace, of business, leisure.”

This  quip sees business or work as simply a means to an end, a way to make a living so one can do what one wants. For many people this is true – work is a necessary evil. Many see their business or work simply as a way to earn money. That’s a pity. Those who learn to derive pleasure and/or fulfillment out of their work, however, live a much richer and more rewarding lives. It’s great if you really enjoy the work itself, but one can also enjoy the people one works with or for or simply. Everyone should be able to find something they genuinely like about their job. Most of us spend so much time working it’s worth the effort to identify and dwell on those aspects of the job you like. On a personal level, it’s your job to love your job.
