A Few More Sportsmanship Lessons From the CIF

Rarely have we seen sportsmanship permeate an organization or region more than in the California Interscholastic Federation. Below is what's happening around the CIF on a daily basis. Got sportsmanship?

Don, congratulations again on last night's game. It is a pleasure to play against you and your boys.

You guys are a class team, conduct yourselves impressively, and play hard and clean.

Good luck in the final.

St. Francis High School soccer coach Chris Cifelli to Palo Alto coach Don Briggs

I just wanted to thank you and your Sacred Heart Prep volleyball team for volunteering to stay and ref at the end of the Spikefest II tournament.

Our girls were very grateful to be able to leave early since they had Homecoming that night.

Your team has beaten us twice this year, and both times have been very gracious sports during and after the matches.

Palo Alto High School girl's volleyball coach Dave Winn to Sacred Heart Prep coach Jason Trip

Salinas High School's generosity included providing post-game dinners for all of our players, coaches, and bus drivers.

The games themselves were well played and hard hitting, with players on both sides helping each other up throughout the night.

We look forward to playing them in future contests.

St. Francis senior field hockey player Julie Grosso was able to take the field to celebrate her senior night.

This happened following a devastating automobile accident that ruined her senior season. Leland High School and their coach Arjan Reyatt displayed the true essence of sportsmanship by allowing St. Francis possession of the pass back at the start of the game, thus making it possible for Julie and her six senior classmates to celebrate their achievements together.

They should be commended for truly honoring the game.

St. Francis field hockey coach Kathy Lincoln
