We LOVE this little 9-minute movie about a soccer team of 5- and 6-year-olds who have never won a game and never scored a goal, but maintain great, sportsmanlike attitudes through it all.
The movie was made by a couple of filmmakers from Barcelona, Spain, one of whom is a relative of one of the young players. They spent just one afternoon filming, and originally intended the film just as a fun document for the players’ family and friends.
It’s clear that the film is a work of love and respect for the team and its good nature, but it’s also a tribute to everyone everywhere who plays sports because they love to, and not just for racking up wins.
The film, called l’equip petit in Catalan (the little team), was a hit online, and the filmmakers have decided to put it on the film festival circuit.
According to an interview with one of the filmmakers on the soccer blog KCKRS, the film was made during the team’s second-to-last game of the year. During the last game, the player Emma actually did score a goal, on a kick-off after an indirect foul. We sure wish there was some video footage of that post-goal celebration!
